Case Study - Brand new auto hail repair company from $0 to $365,000 in 3 months

I launched this company from scratch in June 2022 and did just over $360,000 sales in 3 months. Learn what I did.

If you haven't read my other article about how I approach marketing and business, make sure to check that out.

I couldn't trust anyone to be honest and fair - so I started my own company after 4 years of working for others and learning the ropes of how the insurance restoration business works.

If you want to learn more about the industry check out my Disaster Capitalism Careers website.

The hardest challenge in starting this company from scratch was to create the initial social proof - and it started by going door to door and getting sales, reviews, and creating content around my business.

Consumers in general and will often trust the first person that appears at their door (if that person has door to door sales skills).

While some people "like to do their research" plenty of others can be pressured into making a decision with very little information.

When theres 10s of thousands of damaged vehicles its not hard to find people that will let you fix their car for free.

But that being said, if you don't have a good reputation or reviews - then obviously you will not get the same level of response as someone who does.

I created lots of videos for every job, and this made it easier to get new customers.

After 5 Years in D2D sales I've "seen it all" and can close deals with total strangers

I'm not going to lie, it was really tough in the beginning. My first month I personally only made about $35,000 in commissions because I had no reviews and nobody knew who I was.

I was hustling hard. I had $25,000 in expenses from opening my shop between my commercial lease liability, insurance, my fleet of rental cars, and all the equipment I needed. So I only net about $10,000 at the end of the first month. It was way less money that I was used to making as a salesperson, but the satisfaction of owning my own company was worth it.

Eventually I figured out how to outsource a lot of the time consuming calls and tasks with a VA and custom web application, delegate more tasks to employees, and keep everything organized easily. As time went on I started building more leads, posting more videos online, getting reviews, and met some really great people who gave me a ton of referrals! Then after about a month I started getting inquiries from salespeople wanting to come sell for my shop.

Myself (on the left) and some of my salespeople with customers, pictures from inside and outside the shop.

People trusted my brand and reputation even though it was a relatively new company. Why? CONTENT. I have better videos, photography, and more content than everyone else.

First I had one salesguy join, then another, and then another. People don't know how lucrative it is to be a salesguy in this industry. If you actually work for someone honest and competent, you can make more money and get paid quicker in dent repair than in solar, roofing, or any other D2D product/service.

My salespeople each made $20,000+ in less than 3 weeks selling at their first storm with me. Don't believe me? You can talk to them yourself. Learn more about becoming a salesperson using my online resources.
